Dr. Sorrentino was born in New Haven and raised in Hamden where he attended high school at Hamden Hall Country Day School. For him, the best thing about being a periodontist is the daily challenge. There are always new procedures, techniques, and technologies to learn about that keep things interesting and enable him to provide even better care for his patients. Why Did You Become a Periodontist?
As a child, Dr. Sorrentino suffered an injury to his front tooth while playing hockey, and this kept him in close contact with his childhood dentist (who his mother actually worked for as a dental assistant). He ended up needing a lot of care because of this trauma, and he wanted to be able to help people just like his dentist, which set him on the path that brought him to where he is today. He also credits his father, who changed careers in his 40s and encouraged Dr. Sorrentino to pursue one in the health sciences.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Sorrentino graduated from Villanova University with a B.S. degree in Biology and a minor in English. He then moved to Manhattan and earned his dental degree from the New York University College of Dentistry.
After four years of dental school, Dr. Sorrentino was accepted into a three-year specialty residency in Periodontics at the Department of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry at New York University. Upon completing his specialty training, he moved back to Connecticut, where he joined our specialty dental office.
Dr. Sorrentino is published as a primary author in the Journal of Periodontology, the official scientific publication of the American Academy of Periodontology. He has developed surgical techniques and presented research involving sinus grafting, dental implants, and soft tissue grafting at several national and international dental meetings. Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Sorrentino and his wife currently live in New Haven. He enjoys traveling, specifically throughout Central and South America, and his favorite sports are hockey, golf, and baseball. An avid fisherman, he currently keeps a boat in Old Saybrook. He also enjoys skiing, dirt biking, and snowmobiling.
